The Witcher Battle Arena closed beta sign-ups announced! Gameplay trailer released!
August, 21, 2014
Registration for The Witcher Battle Arena closed beta for Android devices is now open!

The Witcher Battle Arena is a fast, fun and accessible MOBA game based in the Witcher universe. Crafted to excel on mobile devices, Battle Arena combines great accessibility and a balanced learning curve with complex tactics and a limitless array of skill-based strategies gamers can deploy during each battle. Designed with fairness in mind, the game features no pay-to-win elements and allows players to unlock every piece of in-game content via gameplay.

“We are extremely passionate about games, whether they be for PC, console or mobile devices. The Witcher Battle Arena is our take on the MOBA genre and we are really excited at the prospect of sharing it with the gaming community! We highly value fans of The Witcher, and their opinions have always been paramount in helping us develop a great gaming experience--The Witcher Battle Arena is no exception! Sign up for the soon-to-commence closed beta now and, once you’ve had a chance to play around with it, share your thoughts - we’re really eager to hear what you have to say!” said Benjamin Lee, Producer for Mobile Games, CD PROJEKT RED. “It doesn’t matter if you’re new to MOBA games or The Witcher universe, we’ve made a lot of effort to create a fun experience for everyone,” added Lee.

Once launched, the closed beta will allow the community to test the core functionalities of Battle Arena and will help CD PROJEKT RED and Fuero Games balance gameplay, fix potential netcode issues and further refine in-game features. Upon being granted access to the event, selected participants will be given the possibility to playtest 8 heroes on two maps playable in Conquest Mode--The Arena and Korath Desert. Players will also have the opportunity to develop their player profiles in an RPG fashion, as well as help to test several other functionalities present in the full game coming later this year.

Visit www.thewitcherbattlearena.com/beta for more information and sign up now!

To celebrate the launch of the closed beta, we have also released a riveting gameplay video showing previously unpublished content from the game that can be seen here.

We chose to focus closed beta testing on Android devices because the wide range of hardware available for that platform means CD PROJEKT RED and Fuero Games will gain the maximum benefit from bringing in a large and diverse pool of testers. The Witcher Battle Arena is scheduled to launch sometime in 2014 and will be available on Android, iOS, and Windows Phone.

Did you even read the 1st post ?

Indeed I did. It's not free-2-play though, as that would ensure pay-2-win, but still cash goes in.

And indeed it is yet another, uninspired Dota clone, because no matter how you change the mechanics, in the end MOBA is same s*** different game.
And yes, mobile market, huge market, good dollar, awfully awkward to play on but sells well.

I understand in CDPR's plan for the future there were some mentions of a mobile game but for christ sake it could have been almost anything else and it would have been certainly more interesting.

Yet another MOBA... to throw into the MOBA cash-grab train...
Well, fuck me for having high expectations about the Witcher license.

Well, I suppose all I have to say about the matter is:

And also those friendly trolls from TW2, they could be like Pudge (Dota 2)!

Just imagine all the fun characters we could have:

Yennefer - could use ice spells, slowing and damaging enemies.
Triss - could use fire-based spells with direct damage and DoT effects (maybe a butterfly shield too).
Regis - could use his awesome vampiric powers to regenerate while damaging foes.
Dandelion - could use his lute as a weapon, to make flowerpots rain on people, or to buff as a support class.
Ciri - could use her time manipulation to slow running foes or to speed herself up.
Iorveth - could use poisoned blades and cloak to do his Scoia'tel ambushes.
Zoltan - could use an axe and a Gabriel to deliver ranged killing blows.
Milva - could lay traps or rain arrows on her foes
Eredin - could summon spectral projections to help him
Shani - could provide healing and support with Melitele's help
Saskia - dragonform - enough said.

...the possibilities are endless, the balancing would be hell.

Which character would you guys like to see in a Witcher MOBA (i.e. Battle Arena) ?

And what kind of skills would they have ?
Seems like a fun thing to discuss.

That looks tempting... Maybe CDPR might take note for some idea in the future... after we had washes our brains of TW3 images with CP77 emotions ....

PS: As for what character I'd like to see, that's easy: Leo Bonhart... so I can kill him over and over again as Ciri, Geralt and Yenn

I like your attitude !

And you're probably right.

I have a feeling that this project will be one of those little experiments that end up unexplored
and will eventually vanish along with all the potential they have to become something great ~

I doubt they'll go to that extent. The Battle Arena thing looks to me like a fun little project they embarked on to offer fans a very cool extra and for marketing purposes. I don't see them investing a lot of time into a full fledged competitive MOBA game on PC.

From a developer standpoint competitive MOBAs are amongst the hardest games to get right due to having to develop unique heroes and keep them balanced. Then there's how you focus the whole game flow and meta: lane farm importance vs jungling vs ganks, conterpicks, hero scaling etc. Throw in other things they need to consider like how to monetize it (is it F2P, do they get money only through cosmetics like Dota 2 or do they sell heroes for quick access like LoL), keep people interested, support the community, keep the game updated and balanced...

I guess what I'm saying is that I think they'd rather focus on other things like TW3 EE and Cyberpunk 2077. Not saying they couldn't do a PC port but beyond that I don't think they'll invest that much effort into it.

I totally agree with . I'd love to see it ported on Pc, the ultimate gaming platform! CDPR could add more characters (to unlock either paying or playing the game) and new game mode(1vs1; team Dm; capture the flag; defend someone from enemy team and more...). I'm sure it will be a great success!
Go CDPR, We all trust in you!

I'm glad that Battle Arena made it to Android phones, hopefully it gets a warm reception by the userbase.

Personally I'd love to see a PC port of it though, with characters from the entire Witcher universe.
The problem here is that I love playing competitive games such as MOBA titles, but I need to do that on a PC.
It works best as a platform for competitive play.

If Battle Arena would appear on the PC and went a similar route as LOL or DOTA, I can see it being successful.

It won't win over the LOL or DOTA audiences, but the Witcher has a large enough fanbase of very devoted fans,
and the team-match charme of this game would keep it afloat much longer than the Witcher adventure game,
which currently lacks any form of cooperation or competitiveness.

I for my part would be willing to put some money on the table to unlock characters faster, such as Ciri (surprise !).
Or I'd Cahir my way to the top.

Several games have already proven that in the current state of the industry free-to-play models can be successful
without being pay to win, examples being: League of Legends, DOTA, Heroes of the Storm (beta) or Hearthstone.

I'm secretly hoping for a Witcher MOBA on PC ~*
